Auto Accidents
You only have up to 14 days after a car accident to see a doctor to be covered under the personal injury protection (PIP) of your car insurance policy.
The State of Florida is a “No-Fault” state when it comes to motor vehicle accidents. It doesn’t matter who is “at fault” for the auto accident, your Personal Injury Protection (PIP), including any additional Med Pay you may have purchased, will pay for your medical bills. It is also important to seek help from a car accident chiropractor for health purposes.
If you have any questions, we encourage you to check with your own auto insurance carrier to verify your coverage.
Seek Chiropractic Care Immediately
You may need a car accident chiropractor if you have whiplash.
Whiplash is one of the most common injuries sustained in an auto accident. Whiplash is a neck injury due to forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck, like the cracking of a whip. Whiplash most often occurs during a rear-end auto accident, but the injury can also result from a sports accident, physical abuse or other trauma. This is why it is important to seek help from a car accident chiropractor immediately.
Common signs and symptoms of whiplash include neck pain, stiffness and headaches. Most people with whiplash recover within a few months after a course of pain medication, exercise and other treatments. Some people experience chronic neck pain and other ongoing complications.
Signs and symptoms of whiplash usually develop within 24 hours of the injury and may include:
-
Neck pain and stiffness
-
Worsening of pain with neck movement
-
Loss of range of motion in the neck
-
Headaches, most often starting at the base of the skull
-
Tenderness or pain in shoulder, upper back or arms
-
Tingling or numbness in the arms
-
Fatigue
-
Dizziness
Some people also experience:
-
Blurred vision
-
Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
-
Sleep disturbances
-
Irritability
-
Difficulty concentrating
-
Memory problems
-
Depression
It is always important to seek medical care after a car accident if you feel pain or stiffness, even if it doesn’t appear right away. Often, a person may be in shock or have a rush of adrenaline, so doesn’t realize he or she is injured. That is why symptoms often seem to “appear” the next day. You must seek medical attention within two weeks of your accident or you will not have any medical benefits.
